Housing societies ยท Resident waste management

Plan a composting machine for your housing society

A workable society system starts with segregation, collection, and a clear operating responsibility. Use measured wet waste and site conditions to prepare the equipment requirement.

Prepare a requirement the committee can review

Record the assumptions in the committee proposal so the selected machine and the daily operating plan can be assessed together.

Measure collection rounds

Record segregated wet-waste weights over representative days, including changes in occupancy or community events. Do not estimate equipment size from flat count alone.

Check the equipment location

Document usable space, delivery access, loading and discharge routes, available utilities, and the relationship to resident areas.

Name the operator and backup

Agree who checks segregation, loads the equipment, performs the required checks, and handles output. Include training and leave-cover arrangements.

Agree the output plan

Discuss storage, any curing requirements, and intended garden use with the supplier. Keep non-compostable contamination out of the incoming waste.

Documented society installations

Review local site photographs and discuss how each site differs from your own requirement.

Ask these questions before committee approval

Technical scope

  • What daily capacity is proposed, and on what waste measurement?
  • Which waste types can be accepted and which must be excluded?
  • What electrical, access, and location requirements apply?
  • What output-handling steps will the operator need to follow?

Commercial scope

  • Which preparation and installation items are included?
  • What warranty and AMC arrangements are offered?
  • Which consumables and recurring costs should be budgeted?
  • What training and service arrangements are agreed in writing?

Use the price and quotation guide to compare costs. Confirm municipal duties and any incentive eligibility separately with the relevant authority.

Questions before you enquire

How do we select the capacity for a society?

Start with measured segregated wet waste across representative days and peak periods. Share the figures, occupancy pattern, and collection routine with the technical team for a site-specific recommendation.

Can the committee compare real installations?

Yes. Review the documented installation stories linked on this page. Ask the team which examples are relevant to your site and contact them before arranging a visit.

What should residents and housekeeping staff prepare?

Agree segregation rules, a collection routine, a responsible operator and backup, and a plan for output handling. Confirm machine-specific operating and training requirements with the supplier.
